2. Were they really caught by surprise? Maybe. Maybe American hubris is that huge.

Many Americans do not realize that while they have been slurping drinks and watching TV shows, China has been quietly becoming what Americans take for granted. They are becoming #1.
Americans have been living off of past accomplishments. They’ve largely been living off of the work of their grandparents. They themselves have done nothing but tear apart and decadently use what was earned FOR them.
